The gel used in whitening strips or teeth trays can still sometimes cause irritation or even white spots to appear on the gums and teeth. However, these will disappear in a short time.

Please keep in mind that not everyone will respond well to carbamide peroxide teeth whitener even though it is considered very safe. Everyone is different. Keep in mind that false teeth or caps may not be affected by it, leaving those teeth a darker shade than the natural teeth that are treated.

Tooth sensitivity should also be a factor in choosing a tooth whitener. If you have teeth that are already prone to being sensitive, it is likely that they will respond with sensitivity to carbamide peroxide. Even those with no history of tooth sensitivity might experience sensitivity to the chemical.
