Laser Teeth Whitening

Getting whiter teeth is no longer just for celebrities. It is available to just about anyone. Tooth whitening is very popular and most people are aware of the different treatments available to whiten teeth such as professional tooth whitening or at home treatments. Also, many people know that the same whitening agent is used both in the dentist's office and in the at home versions, many of which are available over the counter.

If you go in for professional tooth whitening you should be aware that your dentist will use a higher concentration of the whitening chemical. This is one thing that makes it possible for your teeth to be whitened in just an hour or so, with one visit to the office.

Laser teeth whitening technology is widely available and makes the whitening process fast and effective. In these cases the whitening gel is used in conjunction with the light, presumably for a quicker whitening treatment.

Dentists like to use several different kinds of lasers or lights to help with the bleaching of the teeth. The type used depends on what brand of whitening procedure is being used. Some of the lasers used are a gas plasma/light emitting diode or a Biolase laser. The lights that might be used include halogen light, plasma arc light, or metal halide light.

Of course, there are other professional teeth whitening systems which do not make use of a laser or light. The idea behind using one is that the heat from the light speeds up the activity of the peroxide compound that is used to whiten the teeth. However, some studies as to whether or not the light is effective in this way are inconclusive.

In the past it was thought that tooth sensitivity which occasionally follows the whitening process could be greater if a light or laser was used in the treatment. This may be true for older versions, as they emitted heat that could cause greater sensitivity. However, today's lasers and lights are fitted with filters that keep the warmth out and only send what is necessary to speed up the process of whitening. This means that todays laser teeth whitening systems are probably no worse for causing tooth sensitivity than a treatment that does not use the light.

A Few have argued that using lasers in this process is not needed and even ineffective, one the other hand, many are certain that it is a important ingredient in a good professional tooth whitening system. The science behind it seems to make sense.

If you are considering getting your teeth whitened professionally, you should read up on laser teeth whitening. It may make it possible for you to have the white teeth you are looking for in only about an hour. If you have any concerns about it, talk to your dentist and do some more research on the Internet.
