Whitening Tooth Stains
The “Hollywood smile” has become ever more popular and is not available, not only to actors, singers and the rich and famous, but to you and me as well. People with teeth stains might be especially anxious to achieve a look closer to what the celebrities have. And this is possible!
Nobody’s teeth are naturally white. Each person’s teeth has its own coloration, just as their hair and eyes do. Teeth naturally range from a light yellow to a light yellowish-red.
However, with the magazine covers showing gleaming white teeth, and the foods we eat causing our teeth to be ever yellower than they naturally are, more and more people are interested in whitening tooth stains.
Tooth stain might come from a variety of sources. The very worst culprits are not actually food at all, but drinks. Darkly pigmented beverages tend to discolor the teeth more than other foods. Coffee, black tea, wine and cola are the top offenders.
Foods such as curry, balsamic vinegar, soy sauce and even tomato sauces can cause discoloration as well. It is best after eating these foods to brush your teeth. Also, eating lettuce or spinach with these types of foods can help ward of staining.
Besides the obvious means of preventing stains, such as abstaining from offending foods and smoke, brushing teeth regularly etc. teeth stains can be whitened by the popular methods available from dentists and even at the drugstore or supermarket.
Whitening tooth stains does not have to be a difficult or lengthy process. The best way to achieve a fast, simple whitening is to visit your dentist. Professional treatments work faster and don’t require you to do anything more than sit in a chair. This is the best option for whitening tooth stains if you want it done quickly and easily.
There are other options available for those who don’t mind doing it themselves at home. These at home treatments are nearly always less expensive than a visit to your dentist. They are not difficult, either, and generally won’t require a change in your schedule, as the whitening can be done during the night while you sleep, or while you are showering, cleaning, watching TV or doing any activity in the home.
Some in home treatments use a tooth tray that you fill with a gel for whitening tooth stains. This is worn at night while you sleep. The generic trays are less effective than those molded and formed by professionals to fit your teeth perfectly, based on a mold that you provide them with.
And even simpler option is to buy a package of white strips from your nearest store. These thin strips of plastic coated with a whitening gel are attached to your teeth. They are worn once or twice a day for a half an hour at a time and effectively whiten your teeth over the course of a week or two.
Whitening tooth stains is easy! Just choose the method that best suits your needs and get started. You’ll be on your way to a whiter, brighter smile in days!
